This recipe is an oldie and goodie. I think it initially came from Paula Deen, but it got put in my first homemade cookbook with my alterations. I love this cookbook.
With it’s plastic sleeves covered in splatters. The pictures from our first house. Oldie but goodie.
Because of this, and because I wasn’t counting calories when I made this, I don’t have a calorie count right now. And, since Miranda has been asking for this recipe, I figured I’d just post it without them for now.
Start with 6 cups of liquid. Water is fine, but I had chicken broth opened in the fridge that I didn’t want to waste. I think this about half broth and half water.
Slice up an onion. (I would have used 2 if I had 2.) Mince 5 cloves of garlic. Add to the pot.
Wash a pound of red potatoes. Cut them in half. Cut the big ones into thirds. And put ‘em in the pot.
Rinse and chunk a pound of carrots. Pioneer Woman told me it was okay not to peel them. So I just scrub them a little and rinse real good. Into the pot they go too!
the star of the show: Old Bay.
A whole half cup of the stuff. It smells divine.
and 2 tablespoons or so of smoked paprika. My favorite stuff in the world.
I let that all cook while I did my post-run shower. That tells you how long these pictures have been sitting in iPhoto.
Anywhoo… It cooks for about 25 minutes at this point.
And then the finishing touches…
Nathan found this sausage at Whole Foods. A whopping $2.50. Fantastic addition.
Slice it up, add it to the pot.
Hello corn! 4 ears, shucked and halved.
Let that cook about 10 minutes and then…
A pound of shrimp. I usually used deveined and unpeeled, but I had bought this shrimp for pasta initially. So it was already peeled. It made things easier. Just don’t buy precooked shrimp and it’ll be fine.
The shrimp only needs to cook 3-4 minutes until opaque.
I was followed around and yelled at by my Farley cat the entire time I was making this. When he wants something, he reaches out with his paw. It’s adorable. His yelling wasn’t. I didn’t give him any. He was grouchy. I love my little guy.
And tah-dah! Get the goodies out with a slotted spoon…
(I’ll post nutritional info eventually.)

YESSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS!
I knew you’d be happy!
I love this meal.
This looks super delicious. I’ve only participated in a crawfish boil once, in Louisiana, but the crawfish were so much work… a shrimp boil is much more my style! Is that seasoning similar to what seasoning woudl be for a crawfish boil?
